They conducted very controlled tests including the accepted double-blind standards used today in product approval studies. USAGE :

The Noni plant (Morinda citrifolia) is native to tropical Asia, the Malay Peninsula, Australia, and the Pacific Islands. In these parts of the world, the fruit has been used for centuries to alleviate a wide variety of illnesses. For example, the Noni fruit has been used in Thailand to relieve vomiting and nausea.*1 In Fiji, it has been used to treat ringworm, hemorrhoids, and oral problems such as bad breath, hoarseness, and mouth ulcers.*2 In the Cook Islands, Noni juice has been used to treat urinary tract infections and abdominal swellings.*3 The plant is also found throughout India where the fruit is claimed to be laxative and emmenagogue.*4 Unfortunately, the Noni fruit has an unpleasant taste and noxious smell and is therefore not eaten as nourishment except during times of famine.

Dr. Eiichi Furusawa and Anne Hirazumi, of the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Hawaii, have performed a series of studies concerning the potential health benefits of the Noni fruit. In three successive studies (in vitro or in vivo with mice), the researchers showed that Noni juice enhances the immune system and thereby attacks tumor cells. The active portion of Noni (the ethanol-insoluble fraction) contains gum arabic heteropolysaccharide, which is composed mainly of the sugars glucuronic acid, galactose, arabinose, and rhamnose. Dr. Furusawa treated tumor-bearing mice with a combination of these Noni polysaccharides and conventional chemotherapeutic agents and found that Noni polysaccharides had a significantly beneficial effect. He concluded, "the possibility of combining [the active component of Noni] with sub-optimal doses of chemotherapy may not only reduce the toxic side effects of chemotherapy by lowering its dose, but may improve the curative property."*5,6,7 Another group of researchers in the Department of Bacteriology at the University of Hawaii found that the Noni fruit is moderately effective against bacteria.*8

Raspberries contain ellagic acid, a powerful antioxidant. Found in almost all fruits, vegetables, and nuts, ellagic acid is present in much higher concentrations in raspberries than in other foods.*9 Ellagic acid has been widely studied in recent years. Many studies have examined its usefulness as an antioxidant. In 1999 a study performed by researchers at the Central Drug Research Institute in India found that "ellagic acid possess the properties of a potent free radical scavenger which suggests its usefulness as a drug for antioxidant therapy."*10 Among other things, studies have shown that ellagic acid is antimutagenic*11 and that it prevents ulcers. In 1998 a researcher from the Department of Medicine of the China Medical College in Taiwan evaluated the growth of Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium implicated in the development of ulcers, in the presence of several different concentrations of ellagic acid. The researcher found that ellagic acid inhibited the growth of H. pylori.*12

Blueberries are well known for their antioxidant properties. Recent studies of blueberries have shown that a diet containing blueberries can be beneficial in many ways. A study supported by the US Department of Agriculture of aged (19 month old) mice showed that supplementing the diet with blueberry extract can reverse some age-related neuronal or behavioral dysfunctions.*13 A collaborative study between Tel Aviv University and Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel indicated that blueberries contain a polymeric compound that inhibits adhesion of Esherichia coli to cells of the urinary and alimentary tracts, thus preventing development of urinary tract infections.*14 In an in vitro study published in 1996, researchers from the University of Illinois found that blueberries are potentially anticarcinogenic. One type of flavonoid in blueberries, the proanthocyanidin fraction, inhibited the induction of ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) activity. ODC is rate-limiting in the synthesis of polyamines, which rapidly proliferate in cancer cells. Thus, by inhibiting ODC, blueberries inhibit the synthesis of polyamines, which may also inhibit cancer cells.*15 Additionally, in a collaborative study published in 1999, researchers from Tufts University, University of Connecticut, and University of Colorado found that blueberry extract can protect against an increase in capillary permeability, which can be caused by hypertension, diabetes, or heart attack. Blueberry extract in the diet of rats in this study protected them from an increase of capillary permeability that was induced by hyperoxia (exposing the rats to pure oxygen for 48 hours).*16

Agave nectar, citric acid, natural raspberry flavor and stevia (or "honeyleaf" plant) are included in Neways' Authentic Hawaiian Noni® to enhance the flavor.

Stevia is widely used in dietary supplements throughout the United States and as a non-caloric sweetener in Japan. Some studies have suggested that stevia may be helpful in treating diabetes because of antihyperglycemic effects. For example, a group of researchers from the Aarhus University Hospital and Novo Nordisk (a company that deals with insulin and diabetes care) in Denmark found that stevioside (a glycoside of stevia) encourages the secretion of insulin in the presence of glucose.*17 Additionally, many studies have been performed to assess the safety of stevia. Researchers from Tianjin Medical College in China performed a 24-month study of the effects of low-, mid-, and high-dose levels of stevioside in rats. Based on the results of their study and their review of many previous studies, the researchers concluded that stevioside is nontoxic, nonmutagenic, and noncarcinogenic. An acceptable daily intake of about 8-mg/kg-body weight/day was suggested by the researchers.*18 The amount of stevioside found in one ounce of Neways' Authentic Hawaiian Noni® is less than this upper limit, even for small children.

Potassium sorbate works in this product as a preservative. It is a naturally occurring nutrient--the potassium salt of sorbic acid, an unsaturated fatty acid found in a variety of plant sources. It is Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) by the FDA.

From where do free radicals come and what are they? Free radicals are created in airborne emissions, natural sunlight, chlorination and other chemical sources. Oxidation, although occurring naturally in the body, can be a potentially disease-causing process. The formation of unstable oxygen molecules (called "free radicals") can be triggered by at least three different factors: pollutants, UVB radiation in sunlight and natural body processes. FREE RADICALS AND ANTIOXIDANTS

In the year 1900, the risk of getting cancer was about 1 in 20, but today the risk of getting cancer is approximately 1 in 4.

With the exception of lung cancer, cancer rates in women are much higher than in men. Yet women usually take better care of themselves. The difference in the rates could result from the use of cosmetic ingredients by women.

A leading medical doctor stated, "The average life span is increasing because we are able to save more babies and children. However, the life span from age 40 on is actually decreasing." He believes this is due to our contaminated environment, which is loaded with toxins, carcinogens and unstable oxygen molecules called "free radicals."

Free radicals are created by airborne emissions, sunlight, chlorination, chemical sources and by the human body's cells as it burns fat to produce energy. These free radicals break down healthy human tissues in a process called oxidation--the same process that causes iron and steel to rust.

In the winter of 1534, the French explorer Jacques Cartier was stranded on the St. Lawrence River in Canada. Four hundred years later, researchers read of this expedition and began to examine White Pine Bark, isolating the ingredients found in the tea. Remember, Maximol Solutions® is a mineral and trace mineral supplement. Maximol Solutions® was never designed to have all vitamins needed by the body. QUALITY OR QUANTITY?

When what is known today, as the "Recommended Dietary Allowance" or "Daily Value" was developed, detailed information was not yet available on the capabilities of delivery systems which we now have available today through new technologies. Because of the poor bioavailability of common forms of these nutrients, much greater amounts were needed in order for the body to absorb even a small fraction of the nutrient.

Researchers have subsequently evaluated nutrients individually to determine exactly what amounts the body requires for optimum nutrition. We also know that nutrients do not work alone and cannot be assimilated unless certain other nutrients are present as well. For example Vitamin E needs Inositol, Manganese and Selenium; Copper requires Folic Acid, Cobalt, Iron and Zinc, etc. Therefore, when all of these nutrients are present together (e.g. taking Maximol Solutions® with Curb®) they create a synergistic effect that helps nutrients become much more powerful, because they are more bioavailable to the body.

Several conditions must be present for optimal nutritional benefit:

Minerals must be ionic in size (sub-colloidal).
Nutrients must be positively charged for the most efficient attraction and uptake by the negatively charged intestinal walls.

Recently, there has been a lot of discussion about colloidal minerals and whether or not they really work. Neways Inc. has always taken the position that:

Colloidal minerals are not effective because they cannot be absorbed.
All minerals not chelated or complexed to an organic molecule are ineffective and unusable.
"Organic colloidal" minerals are somewhat usable but less efficient because of their large molecular size.
"Organic ionic" minerals are the most effective because of their small size, and their organic bonding triggers absorption into the body and acceptance by the cell.
Ionic size minerals are the most effective, since they're the smallest molecular size. Regardless of the small size of an ionic mineral, it is absolutely essential that they be complexed with an organic molecule to be absorbed by the intestinal tract and utilized by the cell.
One must understand the difference in classes of minerals. Colloidal minerals contain the largest clusters of minerals forming compounds that can remain in a solution without settling out by the force of gravity. They are in a "suspension" but are not dissolved into a "solution." Colloidal minerals cannot be absorbed or utilized without an organic molecule attached to them. Even then, absorption is often poor due to their large size.
"Organic colloidal" minerals from humic shale are effective to a small degree. This is due to the fact that there are some organic micro-colloidal and even a few ionic minerals present as well. These smaller molecular size mineral compounds penetrate more easily than the larger colloidal compounds. This may be the real reason for the claims made associated with colloidal minerals. However, if any of these minerals in any size are not complexed or chelated with an organic molecule, they cannot be effective.

For the more technical minded: Glucosamine is an amino monosaccharide derived from glucose, the principal sugar found in blood. It is water soluble and easily absorbed in the small intestine. Glucosamine is a chemical compound of Glucose and an Amine molecule (a nitrogen atom with two hydrogen atoms) that supports the maintenance of the connective tissues in the body. In glucosamine, one oxygen atom in glucose is replaced with a nitrogen atom. Glucosamine has an affinity for joint cartilage and this cartilage is well adapted for the active uptake of Glucosamine.
Glucosamine is produced naturally in the body where it plays an important role in the support of healthy cartilage--the white, smooth, rubber-like padding that covers the ends of bones and prevents them from rubbing against each other as the body moves. It is also a raw material used in forming ligaments, tendons and nails. In most cases, the joints produce sufficient glucosamine to keep the cartilage in good repair; however, as the body ages it needs supplemental glucosamine to support healthy cartilage function.
Glucosamine supports the healthy production of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), formerly known as mucopolysaccharides, and proteoglycans (PGs)--two essential building blocks of cartilage. It acts as a raw material for the chondrocytes--cells that are responsible for the synthesis, maintenance, and regeneration of cartilage. When glucosamine is available for chondrocytes, they are able to produce connective tissue faster. Glucosamine also appears to work by providing the once-starved chondrocytes with the raw materials necessary to stimulate the synthesis of GAGs and PGs.
Proteoglycans (PGs) have a negative charge which causes them to attract water molecules. This causes PGs to have a gel-like consistency and the ability to fill space in three dimensions. Collagen fibers give them form. If the body does not make PGs in sufficient amounts, it may suffer impaired cartilage function and accelerated breakdown.
