Revenol

Revenol® is a broad-spectrum, botanic blend of antioxidants helpful in free radical scavenging. Airborne emissions, sunlight, chlorination, chemical sources and pollution may create free radical damage to our body’s cells causing oxidation. From where do free radicals come and what are they? Free radicals are created in airborne emissions, natural sunlight, chlorination and other chemical sources. The body also creates these free radicals in the process of burning fat for energy. To put it in simple terms, a free radical is an atom or molecule with an unpaired electron. Unpaired electrons cause unstable, highly reactive atoms or molecules.

Michael Dye in "Bio/Tech News" explains free radicals this way: "Free radicals are a very hazardous, unnatural and unstable state, because electrons normally come in pairs. This odd, unpaired electron in a free radical causes it to collide with other molecules so it can steal an electron from them, which changes the structure of these other molecules and causes them to also become free radicals. This can create a self-perpetuating chain reaction in which the structure of millions of molecules are altered in a matter of nanoseconds (a nanosecond is a billionth of a second) reeking havoc with the DNA, protein molecules, enzymes and cells."

Oxidation, although occurring naturally in the body, can be a potentially disease-causing process. The formation of unstable oxygen molecules (called "free radicals") can be triggered by at least three different factors: pollutants, UVB radiation in sunlight and natural body processes. These free radicals attack the body's cells, causing them to break down. Left unchecked, this may permanently damage cells, and could lead to a variety of problems. According to research, oxidation contributes to over 60 non-infectious diseases, and is possibly the major causing agent in the body's aging process. The body produces a full supply of antioxidants in its youth, but over time the body produces antioxidants in dramatically decreasing amounts. Estimates indicate that by age 40, the body's production of antioxidants has dropped to 50% of what it was during youth; and between the ages of 60 and 70, the body's antioxidant level drops to just 5-10% of its original supply. ANTIOXIDANTS from Maritime Pine Bark and Grape Seed Pycnogenols Extracts are water and oil soluble--up to 95% in concentration and bioavailability. These ingredients are extracted according to pharmaceutical standards and are free from solvents, pesticides and tannins.

FREE RADICALS AND ANTIOXIDANTS

In the year 1900, the risk of getting cancer was about 1 in 20, but today the risk of getting cancer is approximately 1 in 4.

With the exception of lung cancer, cancer rates in women are much higher than in men. Yet women usually take better care of themselves. The difference in the rates could result from the use of cosmetic ingredients by women.

A leading medical doctor stated, "The average life span is increasing because we are able to save more babies and children. However, the life span from age 40 on is actually decreasing." He believes this is due to our contaminated environment, which is loaded with toxins, carcinogens and unstable oxygen molecules called "free radicals."

In the winter of 1534, the French explorer Jacques Cartier was stranded on the St. Lawrence River in Canada. After 25 of his men died of scurvy, Cartier met an Indian who showed him how to make a tea from White Pine Bark containing a remarkable substance that saved the rest of his crew. Four hundred years later, researchers read of this expedition and began to examine White Pine Bark, isolating the ingredients found in the tea. They learned about the powers of the White and Maritime Pine Bark Extracts and patented their discoveries--specifically, extracts containing ingredients called antioxidants. They also discovered that antioxidants neutralized free radicals, and could be found in many other botanicals, most notably in the seeds and skin of the Red Grape.

Grape Seed Extract has the highest percentage of antioxidants and is also the most bloavailable--surpassing even the Maritime Pine Bark Extract. Researchers then classified all antioxidants bearing botanicals as pycnogenols.

Scientists tell us that Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin E, as well as, Beta Carotene and other antioxidant bioflavonoids, are vitally important to good health. Antioxidants have about 20 times the power of Vitamin C and 50 times that of Vitamin E. Before Revenol® was developed, antioxidants from pycnogenols had been the most powerful type of antioxidant sold commercially.
